More Stories and Teachings from Bapjui

"We should become a good student first, before we become a teacher.  What does it mean to be a good student?  First, you should dwell deeply on your subject.  If you want to see your reflection in a mirror, you have to hold the mirror still.  Likewise, if you want to know your subject, you must hold your mind still."

Swami Kripalu, July 1977

Ahimsa - Non Violence

August 1977

"Just as we must clean a cup before we can fill it with milk, a seeker must purify his body and mind before he can fill it with God-Consciousness'."

Diet and Exercise

August 1977

"When we overuse cars, we weaken our legs.  Our food will also not digest properly.  Before we eat, we should think about if we've exercised or not.  If not, then we should eat less.  Even so, we should still eat moderately.

This also includes eating the right kind of food."

Learn Truth Early

July 1977

"Lord Vyasa, the author of The Bhagavad Gita, wrote that the purpose of sadhana is to realize the truth.  He said that we are meditating to attain truth; that there is no religion higher than truth.  Or we can say that truth is the purpose of our life.  Truth is our search.  I have remembered this from childhood.  I was taught it when I was very young."

"If you examine the scriptures of India, you will find countless descriptions of Gods and Goddesses.  We call them 'Devas'.  All the Devas come from one source:  God.  Lets take a seed.  You hold it in your hand and turn it over, but you can't see the tree trunk, the branches or the leaves?  You have to plant it for that, and watch it grow, then all these other things become visible.  So the seed, is an ungrown tree.  The tree is a grown seed.

The tree and the seed appear as two ... but really they are one."

The Glory of The Saints

June 1977

"With the sight of the Saint, all sadness will die;

And with the sight of the Saint, happiness comes by;

His Holy form is pure, and this is why;

The Lord is in His mind, on a throne so high."
